Please welcome today's paranormal guest author Shalini Boland! Shalini is the author of Hidden
EJ: When did you begin writing?
Shalini: I’ve always loved to write, but I had my first idea for a novel in 2006. I came up with the ending first and worked the rest of the story around it.
EJ: What brought you to the paranormal genre?
Shalini: When I pick up a novel, I always prefer to read something that will transport me far away from everyday reality. I want to escape into someone else’s imagination. So I write the same type of stories I like to read. Also, it’s fun to invent new realities - it gives me more freedom as a writer.
There’s a special kind of glamour and romance to the paranormal genre. You can visit impossibly dark and sinister places, or you can paint images of exquisite otherworldly beauty. It’s pure escapism. Also, you can have great fun with it!
EJ: If you could be any paranormal or have any one supernatural talent, what would it be? Why?
Shalini: The power to heal myself and others would be the ultimate supernatural talent.
EJ: Tell us why readers will enjoy your new release.
Shalini: Hidden follows the lives of Madison and Alexandre, appealing to both a male and female audience. The story begins in gritty reality but slowly descends into horror, romance and adventure.
I try to back my characters into impossible situations or give them difficult dilemmas to deal with, making the story more unpredictable. Hopefully I’ve achieved this as current reviews say the story is gripping and takes surprising twists and turns.
EJ: If your book(s) were being made into a movie, who would you cast for the leading roles? Why?
Shalini: I’d like to cast complete unknowns into the leading roles. An eighteen-year-old version of Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian/Dorian Gray) would make a great Alexandre. And Madison would be played by someone raw and feisty, like a young Emily Lloyd (Wish You Were Here). I can't think of any well-known actor or actress out there at the moment who fits the bill.
Hidden (Marchwood Vampire, #1) by Shalini Boland.
Madison Greene is in foster care until one day she inherits a fortune, she inherits a house, she inherits a cellar full of danger.
Alexandre Chevalier lives in 19th century Paris. On an archaeological expedition, he discovers a lost underground city where his life changes forever.
Their lives entwine, but this is only the beginning...
