Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, book 1) by Kiersten White.
Weird as it is working for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, Evie's always thought of herself as normal. Sure, her best friend is a mermaid, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours, but still. Normal. Only now paranormals are dying, and Evie's dreams are filled with haunting voices and mysterious prophecies. She soon realizes that there may be a link between her abilities and the sudden rash of deaths. Not only that, but she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures. So much for normal.
Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron Fey, iron-bound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan's ...more
Evie may have the ability to see through the glamours that shroud most paranormals, but will she be able to see through the lies and misdirection in time to save herself? Paranormalcy
is the fabulous beginning to a new urban fantasy series. I wasn't sure, initially, if I would like such a pink-obsessed heroine, but quickly came to enjoy Evie's character. Evie is the perfect YA combination of awkward teen insecurities and butt kicking courage. She is balanced on the razor's edge of childhood and adulthood, paranormal and human. Paranormalcy is a wonderful young adult urban fantasy read. Filled with vampires, fairies, and werewolves, plenty of action, romance, and loads of witty dialogue Paranormalcy has something for everyone.
I highly recommend
Paranormalcy
(Paranormalcy, book 1) to readers of young adult, paranormal romance, fantasy, and especially to fans of urban fantasy.
