Book Review: Tyger, Tyger

Tyger, Tyger (Goblin Wars, book 1) by Kersten Hamilton.

Teagan Wylltson's best friend, Abby, dreams that horrifying creatures--goblins, shape-shifters, and beings of unearthly beauty but terrible cruelty--are hunting Teagan. Abby is always coming up with crazy stuff, though, so Teagan isn't worried. Her life isn't in danger. In fact, it's perfect. She's on track for a college scholarship. She has a great job. She's focused on school, work, and her future. No boys, no heartaches, no problems.

Until Finn Mac Cumhaill arrives. Finn's a bit on the unearthly beautiful side himself. He has a killer accent and a knee-weakening smile. And either he's crazy or he's been haunting Abby's dreams, because he's talking about goblins, too . . . and about being The Mac Cumhaill, born to fight all goblin-kind. Finn knows a thing or two about fighting. Which is a very good thing, because this time, Abby's right. The goblins are coming.

When the Mac Cumhaill, a gorgeous young man who has been living on the streets, walks into Teagan's home her life is changed foreverTyger Tyger is a story masterfully woven with threads of Celtic mythology including one of the most terrifying depictions of Cat-Sidhe that I have had the pleasure to read.  Tyger Tyger is full of action, adventure and suspense, however, it is Kersten Hamilton's characters that bring this book alive.  The Wylltson family is quirky and loveable making what begins happening to them all the more devastating.  This is a fabulous fantasy tale, a true paranormal treasure.  Tyger Tyger not only makes it into my Top Ten list for best reads of 2010--this book is securely in my Top Three!  A must read for urban fantasy fans.

I recommend Tyger Tyger to readers of fantasy, paranormal romance, young adult, and especially to fans of urban fantasy.  Readers who enjoyed The Iron King by Julie Kagawa and Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire will love Tyger Tyger.
